The DSET team paid a visit to Japan’s renowned think tank—the Institute of Geoeconomics (IOG)—on the morning of May 21, 2025.
The IOG, recognized as a leading private and independent think tank specializing in economic security, has conducted extensive research on tracking critical commodity supply chains and the strategic responses facilitated by various national policy tools. Engaging with multiple groups—including the China Group, the Europe and Americas Group, the International Security Order Group, and the Emerging Technology Group—IOG offers valuable insights into economic security from a diverse array of perspectives.
DSET’s delegation was led by President Wen-Lin Tu, Deputy President Hsian-Ming Lian, CEO Jeremy Chang, and Tsaiying Lu, Director of Energy Security and Climate Resilience. They met with IOG’s Director, Kazuto Suzuki, and his team. The discussions focused on future collaborations to bolster economic security analysis.
During the meeting, President Tu expressed sincere gratitude to Director Suzuki for his ongoing support of DSET, particularly for his previous participation in DSET’s annual conference and his insightful assessment of the strategic value of the semiconductor industry in both Taiwan and Japan. Deputy President Lian highlighted the shared objectives between DSET and IOG in establishing the “trusted think tanks network,” focused on delivering comprehensive analyses of economic security issues from a collective Asia-Pacific perspective.
The dialogue further explored the economic ramifications of recent U.S. policies, China’s strategies in the semiconductor industry, and the critical role of mining in the upper tiers of the supply chain. Both organizations discussed formalizing collaboration and the potential for co-authoring research papers aimed at advancing the field of economic security.
DSET continues to advance strategic cooperation with leading think tanks around the world. During this visit to the Institute of Geoeconomics, both sides agreed to establish closer channels of exchange and concrete mechanisms for collaboration.
