【Coming September 9】SEMICON side event—2025 Forum on Semiconductors and Geopolitics: Navigating Supply Chain Resilience and Strategic Realignment

The Research Institute for Democracy, Society, and Emerging Technology (DSET), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Chung-Hua Institution for Economic Research (CIER) will jointly host a SEMICON side event — the 2025 Forum on Semiconductors and Geopolitics: Navigating Supply Chain Resilience and Strategic Realignment at 13:00 on September 9, 2025. The forum will provide an in-depth analysis of the challenges and opportunities confronting the semiconductor industry amid global strategic realignments.

Bringing together leaders in policy, industry, and academia from around the world, the forum will examine issues ranging from geopolitics and critical technology security to the acquisition of essential raw materials. It will explore how Taiwan can safeguard its supply chain security under the evolving U.S.–China technology competition while deepening cooperation with democratic partners.

Distinguished speakers will include international experts and authors who have written extensively on semiconductors and geopolitics. Including:

  • Marc Hijink, Author of “FOCUS: THE ASML WAY” (to be released in Mandarin this month), which tells the story of ASML’s rise as a key player in global chipmaking
  • Ota Yasuhiko, Author of  “The Geopolitics of Semiconductors Toward 2030”
  • Lennart Heim, Compute Lead of RAND Technology and Security Policy Center and Information Scientist at the RAND Corporation in Washington, D.C., a key voice on U.S. export control policy
  • Philip Wong, a leading figure with extensive experience in Taiwan’s semiconductor industry and academia.

Through this forum, the organizers aim to leverage the momentum of the international semiconductor exhibition, convening insights from both the policy and business communities to chart pathways for cooperation between Taiwan and its democratic partners. We warmly welcome policymakers, industry stakeholders, and all those interested in technology policy, international political economy, and industrial development to join this important dialogue.
