Israel Knesset Delegation Visits DSET to Exchange Views on Strengthening Taiwan-Israel Innovation and Technology Cooperation

On April 22, 2025, Boaz Toporovsky, Chair of the Israel-Taiwan Parliamentary Friendship Group, led a delegation of Israeli lawmakers on a visit to DSET. The delegation was accompanied by Taiwan’s Representative to Israel, Ambassador Abby Ya-ping Lee, and former Minister of Finance, Mr. Jye-Cherng Joseph Lyu. The visit centered on exploring the potential for enhanced Taiwan-Israel cooperation in science and technology.

Chair Toporovsky emphasized that while both Taiwan and Israel are relatively small in size, they have demonstrated exceptional capabilities in innovation and manufacturing. He noted the high degree of complementarity between the two nations.

DSET Director Dr. Wen-Ling Tu, Deputy Director Dr. Hsien-Ming Lien, Executive Director Dr. Jeremy Chih-Cheng Chang, and Leader of the Democratic Resilience Program Dr. Kai-Shen Huang welcomed the delegation and provided an overview of DSET’s recent research in areas such as semiconductors, AI development, and democratic resilience. Earlier this year, in February 2025, Israeli Representative to Taiwan, Ms. Maya Yaron, also visited DSET, reflecting ongoing efforts to deepen think tank dialogue on science and technology policy between Taiwan and Israel.

During the visit, Chair Toporovsky remarked that while Israel is globally recognized as the “Startup Nation,” Taiwan can be seen as the “Scale-up Nation” with its industrial scaling capabilities. He stressed that by combining Israel’s innovation with Taiwan’s strengths in manufacturing, the two sides can unlock vast cooperation opportunities. He further highlighted that amid the current landscape of U.S.-China tariff tensions, many Israeli companies are increasingly looking to Taiwan for business and manufacturing partnerships.

In recognition of his longstanding efforts to promote Taiwan-Israel relations, Chair Toporovsky was also awarded the “Friendship Medal of Diplomacy” by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Roy Chun Lee during his visit.
