July 10th , Tokyo – Tsaiying Lu, Director of the Energy Security and Climate Resilience Program at DSET, joined leading policymakers at World Hydrogen Asia 2025 to explore how the Asia-Pacific region can build a resilient hydrogen economy. Speaking on a panel moderated by Nobuo Tanaka (Executive Director, Emeritus, IEA), Lu discussed key challenges with Abang Johari (Premier of Sarawak, Malaysia), Daisuke Hirota (Director of Hydrogen and Ammonia Division, METI, Japan), and Osama Melebari (Advisor, Ministry of Energy, Saudi Arabia).
Lu highlighted Taiwan’s unique challenges in developing a hydrogen economy, citing limited renewable energy for hydrogen production and a policy focus mainly on the power sector. She stressed that fostering cross-industry collaboration and expanding hydrogen applications in industrial decarbonization will be key to creating market demand and meeting the 2050 policy goals. Lu pointed to reversible Solid Oxide Cell (rSOC) technology as a promising entry point for Taiwanese firms into green hydrogen steelmaking, while also opening doors for deeper cooperation with Australia on hydrogen technologies and industrial decarbonization.
World Hydrogen Asia is the region’s leading conference dedicated to advancing clean hydrogen and low-carbon fuel strategies. The 2025 edition brought together over 60 expert speakers and 200 participants for three days of high-level dialogue on the future of hydrogen across Asia and beyond.
