Nathanael Cheng is a Policy Analyst with the Economic Security Research Program at DSET. His research focuses on critical and emerging technologies including semiconductors and advanced robotics, with expertise in export controls, trade policy, resilient supply chains, and economic statecraft. Before joining DSET, he worked at the U.S. Department of Commerce, International Trade Administration, advancing U.S. trade policy related to emerging technology, standards and conformity assessment, and intellectual property.
He also was previously an Associate at The Cohen Group’s China Practice, a business advisory consulting firm founded by former U.S. Secretary of Defense William Cohen, advising Fortune 500 companies on export controls, geopolitical risk, regulatory issues, public policy, and stakeholder engagement. Nathanael holds an M.A. in Asian Studies from Georgetown University’s Walsh School of Foreign Service and a B.A. in Politics from Hillsdale College.
